A report from the Liloan Police Station that reached The Freeman yesterday said that the truck, loaded with animal feeds for delivery to the Cebu City port, hit two passenger jeepneys along the highway at barangay Yati in Liloan Monday evening.
Liloan desk officer, SPO1 Claudio Castro Jr, said the fatalities were Antonio Embudo, of Compostela, and Jovito Olivar, 57, of Tuburan Sur, Danao City-both passengers on the front seat of the jeepney that was hit first.
Injured were the jeepney driver, Ronilo Hermosilla of Danao City, and two passengers Lucia Tauto-an, and Elyn Gomez Togato, 25, of Talamban in Cebu City-both from the other jeepney.
The truck, driven by Rico Dionola, was on its way to Cebu City but when it went downhill from the right side of the town's Bagong Daan into the highway, it reportedly lost its brakes and crashed into the Danao-bound jeepney of Hermosilla.
The truck plowed further and hit another passenger jeepney, going to Cebu City on the other side of the road, driven by Joel Pulgar of Consolacion, resulting in injuries of his two passengers.
Doctors of the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center declared Embudo and Olivar dead on arrival.
SPO1 Castro said a case was already filed against Dionola yesterday afternoon. - Norvie S. Misa
