CHED launches search for RP's outstanding studes

The Commission on Higher Education has launched its search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines to give recognition to the achievements of students in the region.

Every year, outstanding students across the region are given the chance for their achievements to be recognized. Areas that are taken into consideration include superior academic performance, remarkable leadership skills, altruistic community involvement and praiseworthy personal values.

The search is made possible through the prestigious Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines - Region VII, an annual youth program of the RFM Foundation in cooperation with CHEd and other participating sponsors.

TOSP embarked on a regional search in 1994 although it was launched on June 19, 1961.

Notably, TOSP has produced many awardees that became great national figures such as the late Senator Raul Roco, Ayala Foundation president Vicky Garchitorena and TV personality Ricardo "Dong" Puno, Jr., to name a few.

Deadline of application and nomination will be this March 10 with the screening slated on March 18. From the pool of nominees, finalists will be drawn and they will have the rare chance of participating in a one-and-a-half day workshop and to be recognized during the awards night.

The awarding ceremony is tentatively scheduled on April 9, 2007. Venue is yet to be announced. The regional winners in this year's search will compete against other regional awardees across the country in the search for the 2007 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines this June in Malacañang. - Jasmin R.
