TRS cops to spend holidays in streets

-
While other police units have already started their Christmas break, those who belong to the Theft and Robbery Section will be working fulltime during the holidays.

TRS chief Sr. Inspector Alexis Relado said his men were asked to work during the holidays because he anticipates a rise in criminal activities during this time.

Relado said his men will perform their usual duties until the end of the New Year celebrations.

TRS has three reaction teams and one Special Operations Team. These teams will be doing proactive operations this season to prevent robberies and other petty crimes on the streets Relado said.

"Ngayon mas kailangan yung serbisyo natin, konteng sakripisyo lang naman eto eh,"Relado said.

Hundreds of policemen have been deployed in major thoroughfares in the city including the different churches since the start of the Misa de Gallo.

However, Relado said that despite not taking a Christmas break, these teams will still have one day rest after their 48-hour shifts. This, Relado said, will make his men still enjoy the holidays with their families.

Aside from the regular personnel, TRS has deployed two teams of Barangay Intelligence Network volunteers as force multipliers for its anti-criminality campaign. Those who were assigned in churches were given uniforms.

Relado said this BINs volunteered and allowed the police to use their resources such as their motorcycles and fuel.

Based on the previous crime incidence volume for the same period, Relado said this year could be considered safer compared to last year. - Edwin Ian Melecio
