A 29-year-old woman who is a resident of Cebu City reportedly committed suicide at a beach resort in Badian town Thursday afternoon.
Brenda Codilla, single of Echavez Street, Cebu City and an employee of Florentino III International Incorporated based in Mandaue City, was found hanging inside the bathroom of her room at the La Playa Beach Resort located at barangay Matutinao, Badian.
Initial police investigation revealed that Codilla, who was identified through her identification card, checked into the resort about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
At around 1:00 p.m. the following day, police report said the resort's caretaker named Andrea Aspacio was worried when Codilla did not come out of her rented room. But when she checked inside, she saw Codilla hanging inside the bathroom with shoelaces tied around her neck attached to the doorknob.
Personnel from the Badian Police Station rushed to the resort together with Badian Municipal Health Officer Orduja Espiritu. After the examination, Espiritu disclosed that no signs of foul play surrounding Codilla's death were found.
Badian police chief P/Insp. Rodrigo Orbigozo yesterday told reporters through the telephone that they believed Codilla had planned to commit suicide since she went to the resort alone.
Orbigozo said Codilla had even left a letter to her mother, siblings and to her co-employees but the one for her fellow workers stated that she felt pressured in her work.
But Orbigozo said the employer of Codilla, who was assigned to computer jobs, told police they have no problem with her. He, however, said they are still conducting follow-up investigation into her death. - Norvie S. Misa
