A 20-year-old woman was stabbed by her neighbor in barangay Poblacion, Boljoon town last Wednesday for allegedly spreading rumors of an illicit love affair between her brother and that of the suspect.
Maria Victoria Pospos, married, and a resident of said place, was stabbed by her neighbor Maria dela Paz Magalso, 47, married.
Initial police investigation revealed that Pospos and Magalso were having an argument late afternoon that day on the alleged illicit amorous relationship between Magalso and Pospos' brother that she reportedly spread among their neighbors.
Upon learning of said rumors, Magalso flared up and sought for a confrontation with Pospos. As they were having a heated argument, Magalso stabbed Pospos hitting her at the lower portion of her back. The victim was taken to the residence of Dr. Reynaldo Amper, the town vice mayor, for treatment. He was subsequently taken to the Oslob District Hospital for further medical attention. Meanwhile, the suspect surrendered to the Boljoon Police station.
PO3 Rogelio Fernandez yesterday told The FREEMAN that the responding policemen failed to recover the knife used in the stabbing.
Fernandez said that they are still waiting for the victim to recuperate so that she can come to their office and file a case against the suspect. However, they believe that it would be settled amicably since it was the brother of the suspect who took the victim to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Relatives of the victim reportedly called up the police station to express that they will not pursue the filing of a case against the suspect for as long as she would help shoulder the expenses at the hospital. -Norvie S. Misa/MEEV
