Police nab six in gambling raid

-
The Guadalupe Police arrested six people the other night after a raid on a house believed to be used for an illegal numbers game.

However, the raiders failed to find any money nor the paraphernalia that are used for the numbers game called "lo-go" in Cebu.

Policemen led by Sr. Insp. Catalio Nacario raided the house of Cristita Campomanes in the interior portion of sitio Epra, barangay Guadalupe by virtue of a warrant issued by Municipal Trial Courts and Cities branch 3, judge Gil Acosta.

The six people arrested were identified as Jose Abarrientos, 57; Alfredo Gabutan, 33; Ferdinand Campo, 40; Allan Fernandez, 22; and two sons of Campomanes named Jeffrey, 20, and Jake, 22. All those arrested lived in the neighborhood.

Raiders however failed to arrest Cristita and a certain Aries Abarrientos that they believed have received information prior to the operation.

Policemen confiscated from the house one calculator, a pad of yellow paper, two bundles of paper stubs, 12 brown envelopes, one bottle, one stamp pad, one bottle of ink, stapler, staple wires, two pieces of number band stamp, ball pens, one table, and tally sheets.

The seized items are reportedly used in the operation, but policemen failed to find tablets with numbers etched on them. These tablets are used to draw the winning combinations.

"Ang tawag nila adto "lo-go," ang style sa pagbola mura man sad sa jueteng pero duha ra ka numero, diha ra man daw sa ilang lugar ang operasyon," Nacario told The Freeman.

Based on their information gathered, the group keeps on transferring from one house to another in the area every time they are doing the draw, so far, police have identified only three houses, Nacario said.

Nacario admitted they were late in their arrival because they believed the draw has just finished when they arrived and some people informed them that they saw people going out from the house before they arrived.

Police will be filing charges today against those arrested for violating the Anti-illegal Gambling Law.- Edwin Ian Melecio
