Milenyo's aftermath: Vis-Min linemen commended for restoring power in Bicol

-
At least 80 power linemen from the Visayas and Mindanao were conferred with commendations for their crucial role in restoring electricity in Bicol in the aftermath of super typhoon "Milenyo" last late September.

The National Transmission Corporation recently commended these linemen that it called as "unheralded heroes" who braved the tough odds and rough terrain through the typhoon-ravaged areas of the Bicol region.

Antonio Licup, TransCo-District 3 department manager for operations and maintenance of Southern Luzon, conferred the certificates of recognition to the crew from Visayas and Mindanao during the exit meeting in Daraga, Albay last October 30.

The recognition also lauded the line personnel "for having demonstrated outstanding accomplishment and exemplary conduct in the restoration of the transmission and sub-transmission lines" damaged by the typhoon.

These linemen were deployed there in response to TransCo-Luzon's request for assistance in restoring power in that area.

Among the wooden poles, in Albay and Sorsogon provinces, that were repaired were the Tubijon-Bacman 69-kilovolt transmission line, the Sorsogon-Irosin 69kV transmission line, Ligao-Malinao 69kV transmission line, and the Abuyog-Gubat 69kV transmission line.

The Vis-Min linemen also helped in the rehabilitation effort of the damaged high voltage direct current 350kV steel towers that spanned from Matnog, Sorsogon to Naga City, and the 230kV Daraga-Bacman transmission line in Sorsogon. - Wenna A. Berondo
