The policeman, who was indicted in the robbery and murder of moneylending firm owner Pilar Hernandez and her secretary Wivina Pancho, yesterday promised not to escape from the law, saying he would face the charges despite receiving death threats.
SPO1 Mateo Yanson showed up and reported last Tuesday to the Security Service Group, to which he was transferred from his previous post at Fuente Police Station after he was tagged in the crime.
Yanson was escorted to SSG by his lawyer, Danilo Yap, and explained that he was making consultations with his lawyer, the reason why he failed to report immediately to his new post that also resulted in his unauthorized absences.
SSG chief, Supt. Mariano Natuel, yesterday told reporters in a press conference that he put Yanson temporarily at the headquarters and not under camp restriction. Yanson would report daily to the SSG to comply with an assignment, he said.
Natuel said Yanson disclosed that he has received threats to his life, through telephone calls. Yanson also said he noticed somebody has been following him and monitoring his house for the past nights.
Natuel said he already advised Yanson to be vigilant from now on because the accused has no firearm with him.
Yanson also revealed that his two children already stopped their studies when they started getting taunted and teased about the rob-slay case. He has two children, one in college and the other in high school.
"Gipa undang niya iyang mga anak pag eskwela kay gisungog na sa mga kauban unya akong gi-advise niya nga ipadayon lang kay wala silay labot," Natuel said. - Norvie S. Misa
