October 6, 2006 | 12:00am
To ensure stable power supply during the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in December, the Visayan Electric Company will schedule reconstruction of poles and lines for the Cebu International Convention Center on Saturday that will cause power interruption in some areas of Mandaue City and Cebu City.
The reconstruction work will start at 12:01 a.m. and will last until 8 a.m., affecting parts of North Reclamation Area, including A. Soriano, C. Ouano, C.D. Seno, Zuellig Ave., C. Ouano, E.O. Perez, S.O. Albaño, F. Urot streets and parts of Cabahug Street.
Veco said those areas not directly affected by the reconstruction work will only have a one-hour interruption. The power source for the barangays of Kasambagan, Luz, Mabolo, Hipodromo, Subangdaku and Carreta in Cebu City will be temporarily transferred to another feeder resulting in a reduced interruption time.
Also on Saturday, part of SM City, Cebu City Water Treatment Plant, parts of Cabahug Street, Sixth Street and sitio Mahusay, Mabolo, will experience a two-hour power interruption from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. to facilitate the tapping of CICC's second backup line to the Mabolo feeder.
The upgrading of the lines of Carreta substation from 13.8 kilovolts to 23 kilovolts will continue on Sunday. Parts of San Miguel Street, barangay Lorega up to barangay Day-as will experience a 12-hour interruption from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the entire New Imus Road will also experience brownout from 5 a.m. to 12 noon. The upgrading activity will also include transferring some of the load to the Carreta 312 feeder.
The barangays of Carreta, Day-as, Kamagayan, Lorega-San Miguel, Parian, San Antonio, San Roque, Sto. Niño, Tejero, Tinago, and Zapatera will experience a short power interruption from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. to isolate areas from the upgrading activity along P. del Rosario, R. Landon, Junquera, Don Pedro Cui, and Sanciangko streets. - Wenna A. Berondo/BRP
