Man shot dead in bed

Sometimes your own home is not as safe as you think.
A 47-year-old man was shot dead while sleeping beside his wife inside their house in barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban town, last Monday night. His wife also suffered a gunshot wound in her right arm.
Police identified the victim as Miran Guinaling, who was killed instantly after being shot in the head by an unidentified person.
Investigation revealed that the victim was sleeping beside his wife, Hermita, in their wooden bed inside their room when the unidentified assailant entered their house through the backdoor and shot the victim. Hermita was awakened by the shot and was also shot in her right arm.
The victim's daughter, Ranet, said she was sleeping in the sala of their house together with her two kids when she was awakened by the two gunshots. When she rose, she saw the assailant who was wearing short pants and a blue shirt escaping through the backdoor.
She told policemen she saw his face but did not recognize him.
The victim's body was brought to the medico legal of the town for autopsy while Hermita was brought to Balamban District Hospital and later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further medical attention.
Balamban Duty Desk Officer PO3 Hannibal Lareda, yesterday told The Freeman that the victim had just been released from the town's jail for illegal possession of firearms.
One of the angles the police are looking into is a drug-related incident but Lareda did not reveal any further details. - Norvie S. Misa
