Dead fetus discovered inside Lorega cemetery

-
A dead fetus estimated to be three months old was discovered Saturday afternoon by children playing inside the Lorega cemetery in barangay Lorega-San Miguel. The fetus was found inside a plastic cup buried in a foot-deep burrow with a lighted candle.

Police Homicide Section invesigators learned from a resident that a certain Nancy and Pablo buried something in the area earlier that afternoon.

Investigators then traced the information until they identified the fetus' mother who is reportedly recuperating at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center following a miscarriage.

The woman, who is identified as 35-year-old Eduarda Torrefiel, a native of Dawis, Bohol, told police that she felt pain in her abdomen upon her departure from Bohol to Cebu earlier that day.

But after arriving past 7:00 a.m. at the house of her relatives in Lorega-San Miguel, she told police that she went to the toilet to defecate. But to her surprise, she said the fetus fell into the bowl.

She claimed that she wanted to bring the fetus to Bohol but her friends advised her to just bury it at the nearby cemetery. - Edwin Ian Melecio
