The celebration, the only one of its kind being celebrated in the country, takes on greater importance and urgency this year, coming on the heels of escalating violence against journalists that has earned for the Philippines the ignominious tag of being the second most dangerous place in the world for journalists after Iraq.
Ricardo Cardinal Vidal is expected to officiate in a Mass at the Capitol social hall for the journalists following an early morning Press Freedom Walk from Ayala Center.
A series of forums, lectures and film showings will be held throughout the week, which will also be spiced by a number of social events held in cooperation with corporate sponsors. (JST)
