Dad seeks action vs. selling of liquor near city schools

The city licensing division, police and barangay authorities should act against those establishments near school campuses that sell liquor to students, according to Councilor Procopio Fernandez.

In his proposed resolution, Fernandez said that a number of liquor-selling establishments have been sprouting around school vicinities which is now a serious problem affecting the students.

"What makes matters more terrible is that some of these students are seen going to school tipsy as they are already under the influence of liquor," Fernandez said.

Fernandez, chairman of the council committee on police and public safety, said he received complaints regarding several stores near school campuses that sell liquor and other alcoholic beverages to students.

Fernandez said measures should be instituted to put a stop to this problem.

During its last session, the City Council asked the police, barangay authorities and the city's liquor licensing commission to look into the wanton selling of liquor and other alcoholic beverages by establishments near school campuses. - Garry B. Lao
