Couple loses P300T worth of jewels to burglars

A couple in Belmont Village, barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla town, lost around P300,000 in assorted jewelry after two unidentified burglars broke into their house while no one was home last Saturday.

Serapio Salazar and his wife Julie were only able to report the incident to the Minglanilla police station last Sunday after they discovered that the padlock of the fire exit in the room of their daughter was already destroyed.

SPO1 Florante Capangpangan of the Minglanilla police said that the whole family and their helpers left around 10 a.m. last Saturday to shop in Cebu City and returned at 6 p.m.

Capangpangan added that the couple placed their assorted jewelry in their daughter's room because they assumed that if robbers ever break into their house they would search the master's bedroom first.

The burglars did not search any other room but took only the jewels, most of them reportedly diamonds.

The police believed that there were two burglars because of the footprints found on the floor. - Flor Z. Perolina/BRP
