Murder suspect nabbed in Duljo

A member of the controversial Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity was arrested yesterday morning in relation to the killing of a 16-year-old boy on April 10 in sitio Wakwak, barangay Suba.

The suspect, Eugene Amacna, 20, of barangay Sawang Calero, was said to be one of the four Akrho members who shot and killed Brenjun Taborada of sitio Missionaries of the same barangay.

SPO4 Orville Batas, SPO1 Venancio Roque Jr and SPO2 Felipe Nonong arrested Amacna while he walking along El Felibusterismo Street in barangay Duljo-Fatima.

Amacna, together with Jovani Taghoy, Ramonel Bayot and Juncarl Daan, was charged for murder before the City Prosecutor's Office last April 25, fifteen days after Taborada's killing.

Police were able to secure a warrant for the suspects' arrest from Regional Trial Court Branch 22 Judge Manuel Patalinghug on July 19.

Amacna was reportedly with the group that waylaid Taborada who was about to go to inside a commercial toilet in sitio Wakwak. He was shot in his back once and the bullet exited through his chest.

As the suspects hurriedly left the area, concerned citizens brought Amacna to Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

The victim's mother Leonilla had denied that her son is a member of Akrho's rival fraternity, Tau Gamma Phi.

Although he denied the accusation, Amacna admitted to The FREEMAN that he is a member of Akhro and even showed his coin-sized burn mark in his right wrist.

He said he was somewhere else when the shooting happened but admitted that he is a friend of the three other suspects. - Edwin Ian Melecio/LPM
