Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal yesterday expressed concerns about the ongoing "indecent activities" in Mango Square along General Maxilom Avenue after being briefed of "lewd activities" in the area by Rene Josef Bullecer, chairman of the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board.
"Whatever is good should be preserved and whatever evil and undesirable should be taken out," Vidal told reporters in yesterday's 13th anniversary of Aids-Free Philippines.
The church was disappointed upon learning that drunk girls allegedly freely dance on tabletops. There were also reports reaching Bullecer of couples allegedly petting in dark corners and comfort rooms.
"I believe we have to do something about this kay naa na gyud mga commercial sex workers kay mangita na ug mga customers," Bullecer said, "we agreed instead nga ipa-raid or whatever, for due process, we will let the mayor do his planned about the legal action, once and for all para ma usa ra ang atong move."
CAIB already forwarded its recommendation to Mayor Tomas Osmeña. Meanwhile, Cebu City Police Office director Melvin Gayotin said all he can do for now is send police patrols and standby patrol cars to prevent any trouble that might occur in the area.
Police said the place is frequented by groups of youngsters and adults who come to drink and its popularity has made it a favorite hangout of fraternities and gangs as well as prostitutes.
