A 51-year-old man was shot dead infront of his son early evening last Sunday in sitio Tophills, barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
Homicide investigators identified the victim as Tarsiano Ansag, 51, who was shot at the back of his head.
Tarsiano's 12-year-old son, Tarsiano Jr., claimed he saw the whole incident saying the assailant was their neighbor in sitio Tophills.
"Dili gyud ko mamakak sir kay diha man ko pagpusil sa akong papa. Siya gyud ang nagpusil," Tarsiano Jr. told policemen.
A responding team from the Mobile Patrol Group picked up Benjamin Magtanao, 55, and brought him to the Homicide Section office for questioning.
It was there where Tarsiano Jr. positively identified Magtanao as the culprit.
"Pwede diay nang maghigda ra ta sa atua unya dakpon dayon ta sa mga pulis?" Magtanao said in his defense, adding that he and the victim, who was an ex-convict, bore no grudges against each other.
"Wa gyud mi magka-engkuwentro ana niya sir, gani ako pa gani ang nitabang niya nga maka-pardon sa drug case niya," Magtanao said.
But a neighbor of the two said they were really enemies.
"Dugay na man na ang ilang bikil nagsugod na dihang nisuway ug pusil niya si Magtanao, dumot na gyud na ila," said a resident who requested anonymity.
With positive identification by the victim's son, Magtanao was detained and murder charges will be filed today against the latter before Cebu City Prosecutor's Office. - Ramil V. Ayuman/BRP
