NSO links with LGUs for easy access to docs

To trim down red tape in government and bring services closer to the people, the National Statistics Cebu Provincial Office is linking up with local government units through a networking system so the public can easily access needed documents on marriage, death and even adoption papers.
NSO-Cebu chief Firmo Diputado revealed that the networking system between their office and the LGUs means bringing down government services closer to the people as they do not have to go to their office to get the said documents.
According to Diputado, his office recently implemented the program and four LGUs in Cebu, namely Talisay City and the towns of Bogo, Argao and Carcar are already implementing the networking system.
He added that the municipalities of Dalaguete, Bantayan Island and Camotes Island are also applying to avail of the program.
In a press release, Diputado explained that under the program, the LGU and the NSO-7 are linked through the computer where the LGU can access the forms. A point person is assigned under the LGU to address the requests of NSO-related documents by the residents in the area.
However, he said, documents still need to be NSO-certified so the point person is tasked to carry the documents to the NSO-7 for authentication.
At present, the NSO is linking with the Department of Interior and Local Government on the latter's program dubbed "Local Governance Resource Center", which is a one-stop-shop knowledge center and interactive facility. The LGRC is an accessible repository and venue for continuous review and updating of local governance assets, learning tools and information systems to promote a culture of learning and knowledge in local governance.
As the primary statistical arm of the government, the NSO can input their data and programs through the LGRC where LGUs can use such varied information for their local planning and development in their own respective areas.
