Mandaue government seizes 109 defectives scales

Around 109 illegal weighing scales were apprehended by the market authority in a series of operations around city satellite markets and inside City Public Market in Mandaue these past weeks.

Personnel from the City Treasurer's Office, Consumer Welfare Desk, Market Marshall and market-detailed police jointly conducted the operations which resulted to apprehension of weighing scales found to be defective.

There were 11 in Canduman, 17 in Basak, 20 in Maguikay (flyover), 3 in Pagsabungan, 10 in Tabok, 7 in Alang-alang (Prince Warehouse Club area) and 41 inside the City Public Market.

Market administrator Antonio Taylo in his report to Mayor Thadeo Ouano said that the weighing scales were found to be either unregistered, unsealed, with expired registration, without 2006 sticker, with expired license, with broken or no glass cover, tampered and uncalibrated.

The authorities also confiscated a colored bulb at the meat section of City Public Market. - Gregg M. Rubio
