"Cebu is now the dumping ground of carnapped vehicles most of them are stolen from Mindanao... Ngayon they are using fake plate numbers," CIDG-7 director Jose Jorge Corpuz said.
CIDG has been receiving car theft alarms. According to Corpuz the carnapped vehicles are being offered to legitimate car dealers.
The cars were rounded up after a week of operations by both police units.
Corpuz said they are looking into how these carnapped vehicles were able to register with the Land Transportation Office and pass the PNP crime lab examination.
"May matatamaan didto," Corpuz said when asked about the possible involvement of employees of LTO and crime lab.
"Be careful and extra vigilant even though you're buying it from a authorized car dealer... See to it that you coordinate with RTMO before buying it," Corpuz said. - Ramil V. Ayuman
