Policeman serving court order is shot

A policeman who went to help a barangay tanod serve a summon order against a construction worker was shot in the abdomen in barangay Alegria, Cordova town, last Saturday afternoon.

At around 6:30 in the evening last Saturday, barangay tanod, Dennis Pogoy, 33, tried to served a summon order to a certain Alberto Palangan, a caretaker of a newly-constructed building at the said barangay.

Upon the arrival of the tanod, Palangan allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Pogoy.

Pogoy left and proceeded to the house of barangay councilman Guillermo Wahing who told him to ask for help from PO2 Jose Clint Cañete, a resident of the barangay and a policeman assigned at Police Regional Office-7.

Cañete got on his motorcycle with Pogoy and went to where Palangan was last seen, but before they could get there they saw Palangan riding a trisikad, prompting the policeman to stop him.

Palangan stepped down and immediately shot Cañete several times, hitting him in the abdomen and causing damage to his motorcycle.

Despite his injury Cañete helped Pogoy struggle with Palangan until the three of them fell to the ground in a heap. Cañete finally decided to shoot the leg of Palangan to weaken him.

Cañete and Palangan were brought to the hospital for treatment. The police are now filing a case against the latter. - Gregg M. Rubio
