Sketch of Dy's killer released

Police released yesterday a cartographic sketch of the alleged killer of Representative Antonio Cuenco's witness during the congressional inquiry last October 2001. Ananias Dy's killer wore nothing to cover his face when he shot the victim, the police investigators said based on the accounts of their witnesses.
Supt. Pablo Labra of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch released the sketch yesterday after getting approval from his superiors in the regional police office. He said the assailant knows how to handle a gun based on the gunshot wounds of Dy.
Police claimed that they have at least two witnesses who saw the incident last Saturday. One of them allegedly was standing about five meters away from the scene when the shooting happened and saw the face of the man who shot Dy.
The shooter was about 5'3" to 5'4" feet tall, with stocky build, sporting a brush-up haircut and armed with a .45 cal. pistol.
Police are also checking on Dy's background and activities before he was killed. Police said, based on information gathered in Nivel Hills, barangay Lahug where Dy lived, his neighbors claimed that he is good man and they received no complaints against him.
For now, Labra told reporters they have no basis to invite for questioning Peter and Wellington Lim, who were once accused by the victim of drug activities here in Cebu.
Dy testified in a congressional inquiry last October 2001 and accused the Lims of drug operations in Cebu.
An autopsy report showed that Dy was shot from the back three to five meters away since there were no signs of "tattooing" on his body which usually evident when a gun is fired too close to the victim.
Senior Inspector Benjamin Lara of the PNP regional crime laboratory who conducted the autopsy said two bullets hit Dy's heart and another bullet from the right side entry pierced his right lung. These injuries were the most fatal.
A group of three bullet holes were found in his back another in upper right shoulder and another in the right side of the body, all of these were entry holes with the bullets exiting out at the front. A slug of an undetermined caliber was also recovered from Dy's jaw. - Edwin Ian Melecio and Joeberth Ocao
