In January last year, the city entered into a memorandum of agreement with Rosal Infrastructure Builders for the construction of Phase 1 of the public market for P93.8 million. It was finished last year.
This phase of the project covers the drive piling and the assembly of columns and beams. On the other hand, Phase II covers the construction of the city market structure and other facilities and amenities.
All stores would be on the ground floor while the parking area will be on the second level.
Three years ago, the old public market caught fire that spread to the St. Joseph Academy and the National Shrine of St. Joseph. Since then, market stalls have been lining up along B. Ceniza and Zamora Sts.
Mayor Thadeo Ouano expects the project to be finished before the year ends. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
