Anti-communist leader Pastor Alcover yesterday lashed back at communist groups and other legal fronts, such as BAYAN Muna, for initiating the report that implicated him in the alleged plan to kill government officials in Central Visayas and two mayors in Cebu.
In a press conference yesterday, Alcover denied the reports from Camp Crame top officials linking him to the plot to kill Regional Police director Silverio Alarcio, Mayor Tomas Osmena, Naga Mayor Val Chiong and NBI director Medardo De Limos.
Alcover said he was supposed to meet Alarcio yesterday morning but the official was still in Bohol for the Regional Development Council meeting.
He said he would meet Alarcio on Monday to clarify things on the Camp Crame report and refute the allegations of his involvement to the "sordid plot."
"The issued was disheartening, I was very sad upon knowing that I was implicated as one of those responsible in the plot to assassinate (the government officials)," said Alcover, adding that the communists have been behind this "black propaganda" to destroy him.
"No one would dare drag my name and person on this sordid plot but those who have an axe to grind against me. I don't have any reason and it is beyond my capability to come up with the said assassination plot," Alcover said.
Alcover said, "This is the work of the Maoist communist terrorist, CPP-NPA-NDF, to destroy me and the existing relation that bind all freedom loving Filipinos."
Alcover, of the partylist Alliance of Nationalism and Democracy that has been against communism, also said his mission and advocacy were for the protection and preservation of the country's democratic institutions.
Besides the black propaganda against him, Alcover further said he has been receiving death threats for the past three consecutive months. - Ramil V. Ayuman
