Talisay is smarter after being gypped
July 1, 2006 | 12:00am
Since the police and the City Social Welfare and Development can't find the people who swindled Talisay City of P56,000 worth of medicine by issuing fake referral slips to Mercury Drug in barangay Tabunok, the city is left with no option but to pay the drug store.
The fake referral slips, as CSWD Officer Felipa Solana discovered, bore counterfeit signatures of CSWD officers.
As soon as the news about the anomaly broke out, Talisay City Legal Officer Aurora Econg immediately ordered an investigation and the issuance of referral slips was temporarily suspended.
The city has to pay up in order to continue serving its constituents. Mercury Drug extends a maximum credit line of P150,000 to the city per month.
However, the drug store has been advised to check referral slips carefully before releasing whatever is indicated to avoid lapses. - Liv G. Campo
