1 stabbed dead, another hurt during St. John's feast

Boisterous hordes and flowing alcoholic drinks were a bad combination in some places during the celebration of the feast of Saint John the Baptist last Saturday when a man was stabbed dead in Toledo City while another man was shot and wounded in Danao City.

In Toledo City, 27-year-old Ramilito Yango was having a drink with acquaintances in his neighborhood at sitio Tunnel in barangay Poblacion last Saturday night when one of his drinking buddies stabbed him several times, killing him.

Investigator SPO3 Larry Pili said that a heated argument broke out between Yango and a man named Roland who then got a knife and stabbed Yango dead on the spot before escaping.

In Danao City, 18-year-old Juan Carlo Veralde, of barangay Poblacion, was drinking with his friends and relatives in a kiosk at a beach in Quarry, barangay Looc, when their merriment earned the ire of someone nearby.

Reports from the Danao Police said that a certain Anot, who was with another group, got angry at the noisy group of Veralde, drew a gun and shot Veralde once, hitting the latter in the right elbow.

The victim was taken to the Danao City District Hospital while Anot quickly fled from the place, said SPO4 Jose Salingua Jr who led the responding policemen. - Gregg M. Rubio
