DepEd workshops set to evaluate textbooks

The Department of Education next month will conduct a series of workshops for content evaluation of English textbooks and teachers manuals for Grades 1 to 6.

Curriculum experts, master teachers, principals, supervisors and members of the academe or professional organizations will compose the teams of evaluators and reviewers participating in the workshop.

Participants will examine the learning competencies of the books, the congruence between the content and the completeness of the books' coverage, and the subject matter content to ensure the accuracy of facts and the information presented.

The workshop will test whether the language and visuals used in the textbooks are appropriate for the students and whether users could readily understand the use of the language.

The DepEd was previously beleaguered with controversies after the book Asya: Noon, Ngayon at sa Hinaharap was found to contain hundreds of factual and grammatical errors. - Jasmin R. Uy
