Two slain men found in Toledo in two days

-
The bodies of two slain men were found separately, one in barangay General Climaco of Toledo City yesterday morning and the other was in barangay Sam-ang of the same city Saturday morning.

The latest victim was 29-year-old Geronimo Cabrera, a resident of sitio Himatayon of barangay General Climaco, who was found dead by the riverside of sitio Casoy of the same mountain barangay with gunshot wounds in various parts of his body.

Toledo police investigator SPO3 Virgilio Manatad said the last time Cabrera was seen alive was at a benefit dance at sitio Tanawan in barangay Pangamiha, Toledo City, the night before.

On his way home, somebody must have waylaid and shot Cabrera several times, said Manatad, adding that follow-up investigations are still conducted to determine the assailant and motive of the killing.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the dead body of 33-year-old Rolando Purisima was found at a grassy and hilly portion at sitio Mangga, barangay Sam-ang in Toledo City, where he was also a resident.

Rolando's neighbors found his body with severe injuries on the head and neck. Barangay captain Zosimo Verano immediately reported the matter to Manatad at the city police station.

Initial investigations, by responding policemen, revealed Rolando was last seen the night before having a drink with his younger brother, Roy Purisima, and some others at the house of a certain Sergio Iwayan in the barangay.

On their way home, a certain Herming Tolin allegedly invited Rolando to go the nearby house of a certain Maximiano Henardino.

Rolando's companion went home ahead of him, and he was seen already dead Saturday morning, said Manatad adding that the investigation on Rolando's killing still continues. - Norvie S. Misa
