A 40-year-old farmer was accused of raping a 20-year-old girl who was about to gather firewood in barangay Capio-an, Argao town last week.
The suspect, identified as Danilo Saragena, was held by Capio-an barangay councilman Agustin Solis for the incident and is now detained at the town's police station.
The victim confessed to her mother that Saragena sexually abused her while she was about to gather firewood near the cornfield in the afternoon of April 6. Her mother and Capio-an barangay captain Romulo Camahalan accompanied the victim to the police station to report the incident.
Argao police investigator PO3 Arnold Abenir told The Freeman yesterday that the victim was brought for examination to the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital where it was found out later that she was indeed sexually abused.
Abenir said the victim told them that the suspect dragged her to a coconut tree and successfully raped her in standing position.
"Giguyod ang biktima unya gipasandig sa lubi unya mao na to nga gipahimuslan na siya," Abenir said.
He said the victim could not speak well because she has difficulty in speaking.
He added that the victim did not immediately tell her mother about the incident because she was afraid, adding that her mother learned of the incident the following day when she wondered why her daughter could not walk well.
Abenir said they had already filed rape charges against the suspect at the Provincial Prosecutor's Office last Monday and at a court in Argao on Tuesday. - Norvie S. Misa
