Inmate caught trying to bring drugs into jail

An inmate of the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center is facing additional charges after he was caught trying to smuggle drugs into the city jail after his hearing at the Palace of Justice.

JO2 Hoperey Cabarse was able to seize a medium pack of shabu yesterday noon from Ricaher Booc, 23, a resident of barangay Ermita, Cebu City.

Booc had just arrived at the BBRC at around 12:25 p.m. after the hearing of his robbery case in the sala of RTC Branch 23 Judge Generosa Labra when he was found with the shabu and P450.

BBRC deputy jail warden S/Insp. Gil Inopia said that the Booc admitted to trying to smuggle the drugs and money into the jail.

Booc said that the shabu was handed to him by Ponciano Ando, a former inmate, who tasked him to give it to his younger brother Ginos who is detained in the city jail for a drug case.

Ando was already waiting for Booc at the lobby of Labra' s courtroom. After the hearing of the case Ando immediately met him and handed him the shabu and money.

Booc said that he knew Ando well because they were friends before they spent time in jail.

Inopia said that an additional charge of transporting of shabu will be filed against Booc.
