Tight security measures set for Holy Week
April 6, 2006 | 12:00am
The Cebu Provincial Police Office and Cebu City Police Office will both be implementing stringent measures to ensure security and stability in the entire province and city of Cebu during the Holy Week, beginning Palm Sunday.
S/Supt. Vicente Loot, CPPO director, yesterday said that they had already laid out the plans well and that their personnel had already been deployed to their respective areas of assignment.
Loot said that Bantayan Island has been pinpointed as a "priority area" since most people will likely troop there for the activities scheduled on a Holy Week.
He added that all points of entry and exit like ports and bus terminals will be subjected to these tightened security measures considering the number of people expected to flock to these areas. To implement smoothly these measures, a PNP task force will coordinate with the Coast Guard.
Loot said that aside from the number of cops, sniffing dogs to be posted in Bantayan, Hagnaya in San Remigio town, and at the South Bus Terminal will also be augmented. For the North Bus Terminal, Loot said that his office will be coordinating with Mandaue City where the terminal is located.
He asked people to bear with the tightened security measures as these will be for their own good. - Norvie S. Misa
