PB urges DepEd to stop violence in classrooms

-
The provincial board, aghast over reports of violence committed inside classrooms, is urging the Department of Education to strictly enforce the anti-child abuse law.

PB member Juan Bolo, chairman of the committee on education said there is a need for the strict implementation of the Republic Act 7610 known as the Anti-child Abuse Act.

The anti-child abuse act states that all establishments and enterprises which promote or facilitate acts of abuse shall be immediately closed and their authority or license to operate cancelled.

But Bolo said despite the public's expectation of teachers as the paradigm of morality and patience, violence in classrooms are still committed and reported in media.

Schools should be mindful of the provisions of RA 7160 and should instill in teachers the proper values expected of them as the children's nurturers," Bolo said.

Meanwhile, the provincial board has passed a resolution requesting Schools Division Superintendent Recardo Borgonia to conduct a public consultation on the proposed plan to move the start of formal classes from June to September.
