Food poisoning downs eight people in Argao

A couple and five students and their instructor from a university in Cebu City were taken to the Argao Hospital yesterday when they suffered diarrhea and vomitting reportedly due to food poisoning after they ate shrimps, prepared and cooked for them.

The victims were the couple Valer and Ai-Ai Baoy, physical theraphy students Christine Go, Mia Dosabay, Estrella Gamboa, Henry Camposano and Jinky Olmillo, and the university clinical instructor Lord Bosamos.

Initial reports said the students and their teacher had eaten the cooked shrimps bought from a store in barangay Taloot, Argao.

Mae Recta, another clinical instructor, said they visited two of their patients who later served them with the cooked shrimps from the store. It was placed in a plastic pouch and they ate the food without reheating it.

Recta said the victims later on suffered diarrhea and vomitting and were rushed to the hospital. However she said that she too have eaten the shrimp but did not experience the symptoms.

Recta said the Baoy couple earlier bought the same cooked shrimps from the store the day before them and were similarly afflicted.

Recta said they suspected the shrimps might be the source of the food poisoning but clarified that an investigation will still be conducted to verify the cause of the incident. - Jasmin R. Uy
