Farmers in Cebu have been warned of substandard fertilizers now being sold in the markets.
Department of Agriculture regional director Edgardo Lecciones recently issued the warning saying he already ordered the Fertilizers and Pesticides Authority to verify reports of substandard fertilizers proliferating in the market.
Lecciones said he has not yet received validation reports from the field but revealed that there are two fertilizer manufacturing firms currently under investigation.
These fertilizers are lacking in nutrients particularly nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, he said.
Lecciones said those found engaged in mislabeling and selling of substandard fertilizer products will be apprehended and penalized with cancellation of their licenses.
