The Department of Education has launched its 2006 National Literacy Awards.
The search also aims to sustain, expand and institutionalize literacy efforts by motivating and recognizing individuals, institutions and local government units through awards and appropriate recognition and encourage the development and replication of innovative, creative and indigenous literacy programs.
The nomination and the selection of regional winners will be conducted between March and April wherein all nominations and entries are to be passed on or before the last week of May.
Entries in all categories must already be in existence for a minimum period of three years before being qualified.
The schools Division Superintendents will identify non-government organizations and local government units implementing promising literacy programs and encourage them to join the literacy awards.
First place winners who maintain the rank for three years will be eligible to compete for the hall of fame award wherein the nominee will be given the special award for excellence by the DepEd and the National Literacy Council.
Nominees who are qualified in the hall of fame award will be announced during the National Literacy awards ceremony on June. - Jasmin R. Uy
