An employee of the Mandaue City Engineer's Office died of head fractures and injuries after jumping off the flyover at the corner of M.C. Briones Street and A.C. Cortes Avenue, Maguikay, Mandaue City, yesterday morning
The fatality was identified as Renato Mendoza, 51, a resident of L. Jaime Street, barangay Guizo, Mandaue City.
PO2 Rey Manatad of the Mandaue police precinct 4 in barangay Casuntingan said Mendoza drank hydrochloric acid before he jumped off as his mouth was frothing when he was found.
Amanda Cabase, a salesgirl of a store fronting the flyover said she saw him walking alone on the flyover before climbing over the railing and jumping down. The point where he jumped off was 15 feet from the street below.
Manatad said that Mendoza's wife and his siblings reported noticing nothing unusual in his recent behavior. His wife, a pharmacist, said he earlier accompanied her to work before he went to a lending firm to make a loan. - Norvie S. Misa, correspondent
