Cirillo, who is popularly known as Dr. Contraceptive or Dr. Protection, said the soccer game scheduled today in Mandaue City features the Condom team playing against the Aids team.
Cirillo is the founder of the School of Art and Seduction in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He has several creative and aggressive forms of campaigns against the spread of HIV-Aids.
He said that the condom soccer game was organized to develop the idea of safe sex among younger people. He pointed out that if the Condom team wins, this means that there is an "important energy in the world on how to educate everybody on safe sex and HIV-Aids."
"On the other hand, if the Aids team will win, this means that probably we are not dealing with the issue the right way," Cirillo said.
Prizes at stake are 4,000 pieces of Cirillo's own brand of condom, the "Thirakmisuk" (Happy Darling), manufactured in Thailand. Condoms will also be given to spectators of the game.
His brand of condom is different from other brands as it is sold with an attached special "love guide" in the box.
"I'd like to make people realize that making love is actually a gift of love, so one should nurture and respect his or her partner by using a condom," he said.
Cirillo added that instead of spending billions of dollars in research and test on possible treatment of HIV, educating people about this sexually transmitted disease and then helping them protect themselves is a more practical solution.
Studies revealed that only 23 percent of all sexually active individuals and 26 percent in the United States and Europe practice safe sex; and that one person contracts HIV every five seconds globally.
Aside from Cirillo's launch of the world's largest condom in 2003 in Italy, he also initiated a pizza condom party in Bangkok. - Ferliza C. Contratista
