Talisay to promote 'inasal' specialty

-
In support of the Department of Tourism's "One City, One Product" (OCOP) program, the Talisay City government is set to promote its "inasal" (roasted pig) specialty, which is geared to spark economic activity and give employment opportunities to its residents.

The city recognized the OCOP project by promoting "inasal", a "distinctive and primary product" that made the city known province-wide.

In fact, the City Council recently passed a resolution recognizing "inasal" as the city's primary product in the implementation of the DOT project.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Shirley Belleza, chairman of the council committee on tourism, who said that the city would not be disappointed for choosing "inasal" as its best product.

During the feast of Sta. Teresa de Avila in October, the city held its first ever "inasal" festival that gathered more than 300 roasted pigs.

The OCOP program offers a comprehensive assistance package from local government units, national agencies and the private sector. Its services include: business counseling, skills and entrepreneurial training, product design and developments, appropriate technologies and marketing.

OCOP, an adaptation of Japan's successful "One-Village, One-Product" project, is a priority program of President Gloria Arroyo to promote entrepreneurship to create more jobs. - Liv G. Campo
