Mayor's son accused of threatening partner

-
The son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez has been accused of threatening to harm the family of his live-in partner if she would leave him.

Sorayda Paculaba, 30, reported to the Talisay City Police last Thursday afternoon that Juvan Fernandez, 29, allegedly threatened to harm her family.

Paculaba and Juvan are living in a house in barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla town.

Paculaba said Juvan scared her when he told her that if she left he would either drag her father by car from Minglanilla to Mandaue City or nail him to their gatepost. Juvan, Paculaba added, told her that he would make good his threats as he fears no one, not even his father the mayor.

"Basta mobiya ka nako manimalos ko nimo, gikan Minglanilla hangtud Mandaue og unahon nako imong amahan ipaguroy nako sa sakyanan kundili ilansang nako sa inyong gate, wala koy gikahadlokan bisan pa akong amahan nga mayor, bisan pa si Atty. Econg," Paculaba, told police, referring to Talisay City legal officer Aurora Econg.

Later that afternoon in City Hall, Juvan allegedly lost his temper over his fight with Paculaba and started "going wild" starting a brief chase around City Hall.

Mayor Fernandez had to send for policemen to his office after he could not control Juvan anymore, even after he allegedly punched his son in the gut, according to witnesses.

Four policemen and some of City Hall's blue guards eventually came and subdued Juvan, finally leading him away handcuffed upon Mayor Fernandez' orders.

However, Juvan was later released and returned to City Hall.
