February 3, 2006 | 12:00am
Adoption desks will be set up in premier malls in the city this Saturday to attend to the needs of the public for inquiries about child adoption.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development recently made this announcement adding that the putting up of these desks in the cities of Cebu, Tagbilaran, and Dumaguete is in observance of the Adoption Consciousness Day, with this year's theme: "Legally Adopted Ako, Kinabukasan Sigurado."
DSWD information officer Jaybee Carillo said the desks for Cebu City will be set up at the Ayala Center, SM and Elizabeth Mall, where those interested to adopt children could request for assistance regarding adoption.
The DSWD has also lined up other activities such as radio guest appearance, press releases, display of streamers, and an open house of child caring institutions.
Carillo said, on February 17, a forum on adoption will be conducted where 20 social workers from local governments in the region will participate.
The following day, a meeting with the adoptive support group will also be held at the DSWD field office.
As part of the observance, the DSWD has requested the LGUs in the region to undertake activities like adoption consciousness walk, adoption forum, media publicity, and open house of child caring institutions. -Jasmin R. Uy
