300 OFWs & families get free PC training

More than 300 overseas foreign workers and their dependents have availed of the free training program on information technology offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-7 and Microsoft.

Rey Jacalan, OWWA-7 information officer, showed a table showing the profile of 310 IT graduates from June 22 to December 8 last year.

Of the 310, 193 are OFWs while 117 are family members of OFWs.

Most of those who availed are sea-based or ship crew and their families numbering to 230 while only 80 are land-based.

Jacalan said there are seven courses offered for free that are taught for fees between P3,000 to P5,000 in private educational institutions.

These courses are fundamentals on computer, web design, the Internet and the worldwide web, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database.

Jacalan said this OWWA program will continue until Microsoft will inform them of any changes.

The free training on IT courses is one of the programs offered by OWWA aimed at supporting and uplifting the living conditions of OFWs, especially those who are going out of the country for the first time. - Ferliza C. Contratista
