A 60-year-old suspected abortionist and her 29-year-old errand man were arrested, one after the other, in barangay Lorega-San Miguel late Wednesday night.
First to be arrested was Stanley Atanosa, reportedly a homosexual, who was found by a police roving patrol carrying a plastic bag that turned out to be containing a pitcher with a fetus inside.
The patrolling policemen, in their multi-cab, saw Atanosa in that late hour and suspected him to be carrying a stolen item or shabu, prompting them to accost him.
SPO3 Isagani Pugoy said when they tried to frisk him, Atanosa tried to run away prompting them to arrest him.
When asked about what he was carrying, Atanosa replied it was just borrowed jeans he was going to return to the owner. But further check shocked them as when they opened the plastic bag, a foul odor quickly met them and saw the fetus in the pitcher.
Atanosa, during interrogation at the police station, said an abortionist he named as 60-year-old Lucia Gabato requested him to throw the fetus away.
Atanosa then accompanied the police back to Lorega-San Miguel where Gabato was also residing. On their way however, they chanced upon Gabato buying bread at a store and immediately arrested her.
Pugoy said Gabato admitted doing the abortion the other day on a woman, she identified only as May, for a P5,000 fee. She said she agreed to do it because May's pregnancy was a risk to her life if not aborted.
Gabato then told the police that May has a live-in partner who is an employee of an establishment along General Maxilom Avenue.
Homicide investigators, led by SPO3 Zenaido Pastorfide, Jr., said they would try to locate May while cases will be filed against Atanosa and Gabato. - Norvie S. Misa
