5 fires hit Mandaue the past three days

Eight houses were burned in five separate fires that hit Mandaue City for the past three days.

SFO1 Marcial Vilvestre, fire investigator of the Mandaue City Fire Department has estimated the damage to property at P250,000.

Last Sunday, a fire razed the house of Salvador Lehitimas in sitio Sta. Cruz, barangay Labogon. Although the fire was quickly controlled, it nevertheless reduced the Lehitimas' nipa house into ashes including his broom business.

The following day, another fire destroyed four houses while damaging three other houses on G. Ouano Street in barangay Cambaro with damages pegged at P150,000. All of the houses were made of light materials.

The causes of both fires have not been determined yet.

The Berben Wood Industrial Inc. on Sacris Road Extension, in barangay Tipolo considers itself lucky after two separate fires hit the establishment on Monday afternoon and early morning yesterday escaping with negligible damages.

Vilvestre said that the first fire occurred at 2:45 in the afternoon Monday and another one at 4:15 the following morning. The causes of blazes have been traced to spontaneous combustion of sawdust.

Another fire hit a refreshment parlor at Lopez Jaena Street in Wireless. The fire was attributed to an unattended candle. Vilvestre said the damage was also negligible. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
