Reenactment shows: No evidence on alleged attempt to murder Lao

- Norvie S. Misa -
Based on the reenactment conducted by the Cebu Provincial Police Office, there is no evidence that would support the sniper theory of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency over the alleged attempt to kill illegal drug case witness Simon Lao.

CPPO director Vicente Loot yesterday said it is better for the PDEA to cooperate with them on the matter since they are the ones who were given authority by Gov. Gwen Garcia to investigate the incident.

Loot said the governor's instruction was to wrap up the investigation and come up with the official report. He said the report would be submitted once it is already completed.

Garcia had earlier questioned PDEA's investigation into the alleged attempt on Lao's life. She sounded surprised upon learning about the investigation because she only ordered the CPPO to look into the incident.

Last Thursday, the policemen handling the case conducted a reenactment on the December 21, 2005 incident at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in barangay Kalunasan where a sniper reportedly fired at Lao, hitting the rain gutter near his cell.

Lao, also known as Hung Chin Chang, has turned state witness against Calvin de Jesus Tan, tagged as the financier of the Mandaue City shabu laboratory that was raided by the authorities in 2004.
