DAR gives 622 land titles to 791 farmers of Carmen

-
The Department of Agrarian Reform has recently distributed 622 certificates of land ownership to 791 farmers from 13 barangays of Carmen town.

This is the third batch of land distribution in Carmen for 2005, after DAR's previous distribution of at least 1,000 hectares, and before more distribution of land certificates before the year ends.

The given land covered a total of 492 hectares, which was part of the National Livelihood Support Fund under the Office of the President that was approved during the Aquino administration.

The town's farmer-beneficiaries were from barangays Cantumog, Cantipay, Hagnaya, Baring, Corte, Triumpo, Lower Natimaoan, Upper Natimaoan, Cantucong, Fuente, Luyang, Sac-on and Dawis Sur.

DAR regional director Datu Yusoph Mama led the distribution of the certificates, together with Carmen Mayor Virginio Villamor, some DAR officials, municipal and barangay officials, and other town residents.

Mama told the farmers they do not have to pay premiums for the land they received but should not forget to pay their realty taxes.

He also advised them to make their land productive not only for themselves but for their families and the community.

"Save your earnings, do not indulge in gambling or other vices, because if you do, your seasons earnings will go to naught in just a day. Not everybody is given a chance to have lands for free. You are all lucky, it's all yours now," Mama reminded the farmers. - Jasmin R. Uy
