Big time pusher falls in Samboan

- Ryan P. Borinaga -
Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Saturday night a 34-year-old man during a drug raid in Poblacion, Samboan town after a week long surveillance.

Senior Inspector Fermin Almendarez said the arrest of Rey Ferrolino Cavalida, also known as Rey Santos, was due to a tip provided to them by the elements of the Philippine Navy.

Almendarez said the information that the CIDG received a month ago revealed that Cavalida is considered a big time pusher because he could dispose of about 400 grams of shabu a week.

But during the raid, which was conducted through a search warrant issued by Judge Meinrado Paredes, CIDG operatives led by Almendarez recovered only eight small plastics and a medium size pack of suspected shabu, P9,650 and shabu paraphernalia.

The raid on Cavalida's house was participated in by the elements of Navy Intelligence Service Group, Samboan police and by the barangay officials.

But Cavalida denied the accusation that he is a big time pusher, claiming that he could only dispose of P200 worth of shabu a week. He said his main livelihood is his small money lending business and that he engaged in peddling illegal drugs just a few months ago.

Almendarez said Cavalida used to get his shabu supply from barangay Pasil in Cebu City.
