Bohol farmers receive P2 million facility from DLR

-
The Department of Land Reform has recently turned over the P2-million Farmers Multipurpose Center to the residents of the agrarian reform community of Buenos Aires in Tubigon, Bohol. Secretary Datu Nasser Pangandaman led the turnover of the 900-square-meter farmers multipurpose center to the residents through the local government of Tubigon, attended by DAR-7 regional director Datu Yusoph Mama, representatives from the World Bank, and other local officials.

The center was built to accommodate the farmers' warehouse, solar dryer, and market area for the farmers' produce, as well as to provide adequate space for the farmers' cooperative and a seminar room for its members.

The warehouse has a capacity of 560 cavans of rice and corn; the solar dryer has a capacity of 220 cavans of rice.

The center is set to benefit the residents of the agrarian reform community of Buenos Aires composed of the four barangays of Cawayanan, Buenos Aires, Bunacan and Libertad.

But, residents of adjacent barangays could also use the center for as long as they will help in its maintenance.

Pangandaman stressed that agrarian reform is not merely land distribution, but is always accompanied with the provision of support services to improve the economic lives of farmers.

Meanwhile, the DAR is also implementing the ongoing P10.3-million farm-to-market road project covering barangays Bunacan and Cawayanan.

These projects are under the Agrarian Reform Community Development Project Phase II. - Gregg M. Rubio
