The Regional Intelligence Office of the Police Regional Office-7 arrested last Friday afternoon one of the ten most wanted persons of Region 8 in barangay Banilad, Cebu City.
Jacinto Abrantes, 42, of Ormoc City, but now residing here in Cebu City, was arrested by the elements of RIO led by S/Insp. Epifanio Navarro while he was driving a taxi.
Navarro said that the suspect has been in hiding for the past 14 years now after he was charged with murder, frustrated murder and possession of illegal firearms, when he got himself involved in a shooting incident inside Golden Super Club in barangay Alegria, Ormoc City, last May 20,1990.
He said that Abrantes went into hiding after he found out that there was a warrant out for his arrest in December 12, 1991. Abrantes has a P60,000 bounty on his head.
Navarro believes that Abrantes was just complacent, thinking that he will no longer be arrested considering that 14 years have already passed. It was an informant who tipped them of his whereabouts last Friday, then police then secured a copy of his warrant of arrest. - Flor Z. Perolina
