Man, 70, drowns in fishpond canal

A retired government employee reportedly drowned in a fishpond canal after he slipped while he was on his way home from a public market in barangay Sabang, Sibonga town Thursday afternoon.
Petronio Tenebro Antopina, 70, died after he accidentally slipped and plunged into the canal while bringing along the fish he brought from the market.
Sibonga police investigator PO3 Ramuel Banogon told The Freeman that before the incident, witnesses saw Antopina stop by a store to drink coconut wine or tuba.
While on his way home, Antopina slipped beside a fishpond reportedly due to his drunkenness and was not immediately noticed by the people in the area.
Police, who found the victim floating in the fishpond, brought Antopina to Lao C. Medical Clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival. - Norvie S. Misa
