Brownouts to hit some parts of city
November 25, 2005 | 12:00am
Three to nine-hour long power outages will be experienced in some parts of the city starting today, Friday, through Sunday, the Visayan Electric Company announced yesterday.
VECO said the brownouts would be due to the firm's scheduled repair works on its power lines and upgrading of facilities in these areas.
For today, VECO will upgrade its lines at the lateral portion of its feeder in Calamba substation. This will result to power outages, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., over A. Lopez Extension, and sitios Uclahai and Kamalig in barangay Labangon. This three-hour brownout will affect establishments in these areas, including the DSWD field office and rehabilitation center, the Bliss Elementary School, Bliss Homeowners' Association building and the Veterans Memorial Park.
Also today, a two-hour long brownout, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., will hit the entire SMC Housing in Banilad because VECO will relocate its poles in some portions of its Cabancalan substation.
Tomorrow Saturday, a nine-hour long power outage, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., will strike portions of General Maxilom Avenue, J. De Veyra Street, 9th Street, S. Osmeña Boulevard, Quezon Boulevard, C. Arellano Boulevard, and Sulpicio Go Streets.
VECO said it would facilitate the pre-conversion to 23-kilovolt construction of its standard primary lines at its Carreta substation.
A three-hour long brownout, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., will also occur in Villa Aurora Subdivision and Patville Subdivision in barangay Kasambagan. This will be due to VECO's replacement of rotten poles and upgrade of lines in its Ayala substation.
Then from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, a power outage will hit the entire Canduman Housing up to the corner of H. Abellana Street, and the Canduman High School. VECO said this will be due to replacement works of some rotten poles at its Consolacion substation. Also, a five-minute loss of power will affect several parts of barangays Carreta, Lorega, T. Padilla, Tejero, Parian and San Roque at 6 a.m.
On Sunday, the pre-conversion works of its standard primary lines at VECO's Carreta substation would be resumed causing another nine-hour long power outages in several areas at barangay Tejero, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. -Wenna A. Berondo
